Nominees have been announced for the 2018 Golden Sower Awards, Nebraska’s children’s choice literary awards. Golden Sower Awards are presented annually in three categories: Picture books (kindergarten-grade 2), Chapter books (grades 3-5) and Novels (grades 6-8). Last year 68,769 children voted for the awards through their public library or school media center.
The awards’ sponsor, the Nebraska Library Association, hopes the program will sow seeds that stimulate children’s thinking, introduce different types of literature, encourage independent reading, increase library skills and foster an appreciation for excellence in writing and illustrating. Cultivating a love of reading is one of the most important things we can do to prepare children succeed in school.
Books are nominated by selection committees representing of Nebraska classroom teachers, media specialists and librarians. To be eligible to vote, children must have read or heard a minimum of four of the 10 nominees in a category.
Voting is open until April 15, 2018, and winners will be announced May 1, 2018.
