Nebraska Department of Education Revises Rules on Early Childhood Education

by | Jun 11, 2015

The Nebraska Department of Education held a hearing on June 2 to take comments on its revisions to Title 92, Nebraska Administrative Code, Chapter 11—also known as Rule 11. Rule 11 applies to prekindergarten programs established by public schools for children ages birth to 5.

The most significant changes to the Rule related to requirements for prekindergarten programs that provide parent education. Previously Rule 11 did not contain any requirements relating to these types of programs. Now these programs must employ persons who meet specific education requirements.

First Five Nebraska testified in support of the revisions because they will ensure Nebraska’s children are served by well-qualified professionals. The State Board of Education approved the revisions. The new rule will become effective after it is approved by Attorney General Doug Peterson and Governor Pete Ricketts.
