Report: 20,000+ Nebraska Children Are Being Raised by Grandparents

by | Sep 21, 2017

A recent report from Generations United shows 20,808 Nebraska children are being raised by their grandparents. Most of these children come from unstable households in which their parents are unable to or choose not to parent them, and grandparents step in to help.

In these cases, the biggest gift grandparents can give children is a stable, predictable environment. Helpguide.org says the best way to do that is to establish a routine, encourage input in their new home, establish clear, age-appropriate house rules that are enforced, allow each grandchild a private space and offer time and attention.
