Gates Foundation to Expand Investment in Early Childhood

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is ramping up investment in early childhood, and will expand its focus from the Pacific Northwest to programs nationwide.

The Gates Foundation is based on the premise that “all lives have equal value,” and seeks “to find solutions for people with the most urgent needs, wherever they live.” Historically the Foundation has worked on global health and child mortality, and has funded education work in the U.S.

Here’s a look at a quality early childhood program in Seattle funded through the Foundation’s Early Learning Initiative. Their goal: To ensure that every child has high-quality early learning opportunities that support kindergarten readiness and elementary school achievement.
