With nearly 600 new bills introduced this session and approximately 500 carryover bills from last year, the 2022 Nebraska legislative session is shaping up to be remarkably active one for state policymakers. Among the legislation being considered in the Unicameral over the next two months are a variety of bills relevant to the care, education and well-being of young children.
First Five Nebraska has launched two new website features to help early childhood stakeholders monitor the progress of these bills. The first is the new Quorum legislative tracker on our Track Legislation page which enables users to search and sort approximately 50 pieces of early childhood legislation by bill number, introducer, status, committee assignment, hearing dates and more. The tracker updates in real time with the Legislature’s website, so visitors to our site can keep up with developments as they happen.
As a complement to the legislative tracker, FFN has also launched our Policy Priorities website page, which lists bills we’ve singled out for focused attention during the 2022 session. Website visitors can use the Policy Priorities page to scan bill summaries and access policy briefs, testimony and other resources published by FFN related to specific legislation.
Because 2022 is the “short” 60-day session of the legislative biennium, many of the bills under consideration are likely to move quickly. Committee hearings and floor debate have already begun on a number of bills, so be sure to stay tuned to our Track Legislation and Policy Priorities pages for updates.
