Mike began his career in marketing and public policy communications in 2005 when he joined Nebraska Children and Families Foundation. He was closely involved in the development of NCFF’s award-winning Rethink Your Reaction child abuse prevention campaign and was an integral part of strategic messaging efforts that led to the creation of the Sixpence Early Learning Fund. In succeeding years, he led the development of Sixpence’s biennial report to the Nebraska Legislature and has delivered presentations about Sixpence to members of the Wisconsin State Legislature and the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).
In 2009, Mike and his family temporarily relocated to South Carolina where he worked on communications projects for the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, South Carolina’s BabyNet (IDEA) program for early developmental screenings and interventions and Glenforest School, a K-12 institution serving students with special educational needs.
Mike returned to the Cornhusker State to lead First Five Nebraska’s communications team when the organization launched in 2012. His work supports FFN’s legislative engagement, strategic partnerships, advocacy and public education priorities. He has served as the project lead for multiple communications initiatives including FFN’s My Nebraska Story and Meet Your Future campaigns. Currently, he is coordinating FFN’s public education campaigns for Nebraska’s School Readiness Tax Credit and Child Care Tax Credit.
Mike received a B.A. in English from the College of New Jersey in 1993. When he is not engaged in early childhood communications work, he indulges his interests in history and literature. His academic writing has been featured in reference books published by Greenwood Press.
