Today is Read for the Record Day

by | Oct 19, 2017

Today is Read for the Record Day – the annual October day when millions of people read the same book to highlight the importance of early literacy, and to share the joy of reading with a young child. This year’s book is Quackers by Liz Wong, a story about a kitten who grows up believing he’s a duck, until he meets another kitten. It’s a tale about understanding, acceptance and learning it’s OK to be yourself.

Don’t have the book? Read it online for free in English and Spanish.

After you’ve read the book, Jumpstart asks you to record your number of readers online to be counted in an effort to set a world record. The form is available October 19 through November 3.

Read for the Record Day was created by Jumpstart, a non-profit group working to close the kindergarten readiness gap by providing language, literacy and social-emotional programs for preschool children from under-resourced communities and promoting quality early learning for all.
