Today is ‘Read for the Record Day’

by | Oct 27, 2016

Read for the Record Day: the one day of the year when millions of people across the globe come together to read the same book with the goal of supporting high-quality early learning and highlighting the importance of building children’s vocabulary and love for reading.

This year’s book is The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach, a beautifully illustrated story of a bear who eats a little girl's sandwich left on a park bench, or does he? A twist at the end reveals who has been telling the story, throwing the whole tale into doubt.

Don’t have a copy of The Bear Ate Your Sandwich? Here’s a link to read the book online.

The day is sponsored by Jumpstart, a national early education group that recruits and trains college students and others to serve preschool children in low-income neighborhoods to help them develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for kindergarten, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap.
