Jason Prokop joins First Five Nebraska

by | Nov 7, 2019

We’re excited to introduce Jason Prokop, who became director of First Five Nebraska this month after founding director Becky Veak asked to transition into a new role as coordinator of our Early Childhood Policy Leadership Academy.

“Early childhood development issues are foundational to what we want to be as a state, and pursuing thoughtful public policy in this space is critically important to every community in Nebraska,” said Jason. “First Five Nebraska has been a leading voice in this statewide conversation and I’m humbled by the opportunity to lead this talented team. I’m looking forward to building on the momentum that’s already been created around these issues to ensure that our youngest Nebraskans have the opportunity to thrive.”

Jason comes to FFN from the Nebraska Department of Transportation where he was external affairs manager, helping grow relationships with elected officials, local governments, community organizations and citizens throughout Nebraska.

A Crete native, Jason returned to his home state after spending several years working in Washington, D.C. He served in senior positions for U.S. Senator Ben Nelson, including legislative director and as a senior policy advisor. Following his work in the U.S. Senate, Jason was chief of staff to the CEO at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, which is the U.S. standard-setting and regulatory support organization created and governed by the chief insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories.

Jason received a Bachelor of Science degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University, where he double-majored in political science and communication studies. He and his wife, Jennifer, have two children.

We welcome Jason to this critical work and thank Becky for her tireless efforts to improve the lives of Nebraska’s children and the vitality of our state over the past 12 years.
