NDE announces redesigned NECPRS website

by | Jun 26, 2020

A newly redesigned Nebraska Early Childhood Professional Record System (NECPRS) features a mobile-friendly design, user-friendly navigation, searchable calendar and other improvements to help child care providers manage their information. The Nebraska Department of Education launched the redesign after seeking input from early childhood professionals across the state.

The new URL is necprs.ne.gov. Current users can log in with their existing email address and password.

NECPRS is a robust database early childhood professionals use to organize credentials and certificates, find trainings, manage early care and learning programs and join Step Up to Quality.

Creates cost efficiences
An important task accomplished using NECPRS is verifying licensing records for early care and learning professionals. Recent legislation (See FFN’s testimony supporting LB1206) streamlined the licensing process, which previously required state personnel to travel to child care locations throughout Nebraska. In 2017, 23 Department of Health and Human Services staff conducted more than 6,000 visits statewide, the majority of which involved manually gathering and cataloging training records.

DHHS licensing staff now can use NECPRS for that task and others related to licensing. Moving to an electronic reporting system makes it easier for licensing personnel and child care workers do their job, and results in significant cost and procedural efficiencies for both state government and child care providers.

Yields workforce data
A secondary benefit of NECPRS is the ability to see a more complete picture of Nebraska’s early childhood landscape. The invaluable data helps answer questions like, “Who constitutes our early childhood workforce?” “What are their qualifications, experience and education?” “How frequently do they leave their jobs?” Having information like this strengthens the professional quality of Nebraska’s early childhood workforce and helps policymakers identify issues and make informed, data-based decisions.
